SRVUSD To Open Wellness Centers for 2020-21 School Year
Posted 12/9/19

As part of its ongoing mental wellness work, the SRVUSD is pleased to announce that beginning in the 2020-21 school year we will be opening the first two Wellness Centers on our comprehensive high school campuses. Based on multiple considerations, the first two Wellness Centers will open at California High School and Dougherty Valley High School.

The SRVUSD has made student mental wellness a priority. Based on input from all stakeholders, Wellness Centers were identified as a priority in the District’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) and were one of five recommendations that resulted from the work of the Mental Wellness Task Force. Additionally, the SRVUSD Leadership Priorities emphasize the importance of student wellness as an essential component of overall student success. As part of a multi-tiered system of support, the Wellness Centers are another way that we can focus on and nurture positive social emotional learning for all students.

The purpose of the Wellness Centers is to provide an additional safe place where students can go during the school day to receive support or to just take a break when they feel pressure, stress or anxiety. The Centers will be staffed with counselors and social workers. Additional support will be determined based on the unique needs of the individual sites.

In order to help get the sites up and running, Keller Williams is partnering with us to redo the rooms by providing, but not limited to, paint and furniture. In order to support their ongoing work on social emotional health, the District plans to open Wellness Centers at both Monte Vista High School and San Ramon Valley High School in the near future.
