Check-In Message from the SRVUSD
Posted 4/23/20

It’s time for a check-in. We hope you and your families are doing well by staying safe and healthy during our shelter-in-place. While you and your children have been busy with remote learning, District staff have been busy working on the abundance of decisions that must be made under the new circumstances that define our school experience.

As we undertake remote teaching and learning, we are discovering together what is working well and what needs to change. We can now draw from hands-on experiences, as well as feedback from students, parents and teachers, to identify the areas where we need to adjust and improve our remote learning environment. This dynamic environment demands flexibility from all of us.

Something that has weighed heavily on all our minds is how we can safely honor the students who would have been enjoying transitional activities this spring. Our graduating seniors, especially, have worked hard and deserve to be acknowledged.  We will be in touch within the next 2 weeks to let you know how we will be handling our graduation and promotion ceremonies. In addition to transition activities, there are decisions to be made about school for next year, summer and so much more.

We will do our best to address as many of your questions as possible at our Remote Learning Question and Answer Session. This Session will be broadcast live on the District’s YouTube channel tonight, Thursday, April 23rd from 6-7 p.m. We received over 330 questions prior to our submission deadline on Tuesday, April 21st, and will not be accepting questions during the event. You can expect answers to questions around the topics which have generated the greatest interest, including:  grading, the Remote Learning Continuity Plan, graduation and promotion ceremonies, Special Education and the future of our summer programs. The session will be recorded for viewing anytime on our YouTube channel.

We want to hear from our students, too. In order to answer student-generated questions, we have scheduled a student-specific Question and Answer Session for next Thursday, April 30th from 10 - 11 a.m. Students can use this form to submit their questions and District personnel and School Board members will livestream answers on the District’s YouTube Channel during the session.

The entire SRVUSD education community is to be commended for stepping up and making the most of a difficult situation. We know how hard this has been on every single one of you. We are each facing a different set of challenges right now. More than anything, we want you to know that we understand that and we want to help you.

Our Remote Learning Continuity Plan webpages have many, many resources to assist you on this journey. We encourage you to take advantage of this consolidated, vetted hub of information. We also have a comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions page with answers to commonly asked questions, which we have recently expanded and updated. If you need support or have questions, please reach out for help. As always, your teachers, counselors, principals and other school staff are available and ready to assist. They are just an email away.

Wishing you all good health, patience and strength.
