Schools of the SRVUSD to Remain Closed through the end of the School Year
Posted 4/7/20

The public health officers and county superintendents in six Bay Area counties have announced they will extend the suspension of in-class instruction through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This announcement comes as local public health officers continue to monitor and ensure that local orders to shelter in place with limited availability of COVID-19 testing are observed and followed. This decision means that SRVUSD schools will be closed, along with all other schools in the region, through the end of the 2019-2020 school year.  In addition, all special events, field trips and school related activities including Graduation, Senior Balls, 8th Grade Promotions and other end-of-year activities have been cancelled.

Despite our buildings remaining closed, learning will continue for students at all SRVUSD schools through the Remote Learning Continuity Plan for the remainder of the year.  As you know, after spring break, remote learning will shift to progress on teaching and learning of essential standards. We will be sharing a more detailed update about this phase of our Remote Learning Continuity Plan toward the end of this week.

While we were prepared for this possibility, we are deeply disappointed that we will end our school year without seeing our students back in class. We know that this news is disappointing for all students, especially for our graduating seniors and students who will be moving to a new campus for the 2020-21 school year. Over the coming weeks, we will share information about plans to honor our students and their end-of-year commemorations and activities. Students worked hard to achieve the success required to promote and graduate and we want them to enjoy the celebratory moments that go along with their achievements. We do not yet know how this will look, but we acknowledge its importance and are working on a plan.

Now that the Bay Area Public Health officers have extended school closure through May, there are many things that will need to be decided. We thank you for your patience while we figure everything out. In the meantime, for the most recent information, please read our FAQs, which we update regularly.

In the spirit of transparency, we want you to be aware that preliminary communication from the Department of Public Health also indicates that our school campuses will be closed through summer of 2020.  More information will be coming over the next month about the status of our summer programs and the availability of our sites for use by outside groups.

We hope that all families and students of the SRVUSD are staying healthy and enjoying your spring break. The safety and well-being of every student and staff member remains at the forefront of every decision that we make during this health crisis. We will continue to keep you updated and wish you our best now and moving forward.
