SVMS and SRVHS Construction Update
Posted 3/7/19

Construction on the San Ramon Valley Unified School District’s two largest construction projects funded through Measure D continue to make progress towards completion for occupation in the 2019-2020 school year.

San Ramon Valley High School

Work on the new building continues on schedule at San Ramon Valley High School. The project timeline shows completion this summer in time for the start of the 2019-2020 school year. After the new building is complete, District staff will commence with the construction of the new parking lot between the building and the Iron Horse Trail (fall 2019), as well as restoring the athletic playfields where the temporary classrooms currently sit (late fall/early winter 2019).

Stone Valley Middle School

The Board of Education took action in December 2018 to terminate the contracts it held with Vila Construction Company for the building project at Stone Valley Middle School. District staff notified the bonding company (Liberty Mutual Insurance Company) of the Board’s action and later that month a takeover agreement was approved with Liberty Mutual as it is now their responsibility to complete the project. Liberty Mutual identified a replacement contractor (RJT Construction) who began mobilizing to the job immediately.

Over the past several weeks RJT Construction has worked to familiarize themselves with the work remaining on the project while re-negotiating with the sub-contractors. RJT is progressing with the remaining work, including correcting errors that deviated from the approved plans and drawings. RJT Construction has provided a completion date of the beginning of August 2019, which allows staff and students use of the new buildings before the start of the 2019-20 school year. The majority of the remaining work is inside the buildings and includes things like, carpet, paint, cabinetry, ceilings, floors, electrical and plumbing finishes, etc.

At this time, SRVUSD staff believe that RJT Construction is capable and can deliver the buildings on the schedule they have provided.  District staff will continue to monitor their progress and provide updates as they become available.

Both of these projects, when completed, will provide exceptional, top-quality facilities for the students at San Ramon Valley High School and Stone Valley Middle School. SRVUSD staff are excited to monitor their progress and look forward to sharing more developments as completion gets closer.
