Stone Valley Middle School Construction Update

On Tuesday, June 26, at the San Ramon Valley Unified School District Board of Education meeting, Richard Vila, President and CEO of Vila Construction, one of the main contractors for the Stone Valley Middle School building project, publicly apologized for the current state of the project and the East Bay Times article that was published without his knowledge. He also stated his promise to renew his company’s commitment to working with the District.

“I want to rectify or right the ship. I want to get this job done as soon as I can with the least cost to the district and the least cost to me also,” Richard Vila said.  “I want to make it right. I am committed to being on the job site every day. The attitude in the field from my personnel is going to change.”

Given Mr. Vila’s apology and promise of renewed efforts, the Board of Education deferred action on a proposal to terminate the contract with Vila Construction.  Work on the project will continue while the District and Vila work closely to verify that adequate resources and oversight are being provided to ensure the project gets back on track. The District Facilities team will monitor and evaluate Vila’s progress.

“The District is optimistic that with President Richard Vila’s involvement and personnel changes, Vila Construction will work collaboratively with the District to mitigate existing challenges, complete the project and get our students and staff in their new building as quickly as possible,” said Gary Black, SRVUSD Assistant Superintendent of Facilities and Operations. “The District appreciates Richard Vila being so forthright and offering to do whatever it takes to deliver a great new building to the Stone Valley Community.”

The District will continue to update the community as to these combined efforts.
